Breezy and chilly
Fascinating fact: The British winter of 1962–1963 was known as the Big Freeze and was one of the coldest winters on record in the United Kingdom. Temperatures dropped like a stone, seeing lakes and rivers freezing over.
We might be beside the seaside, but boy oh boy does it get breezy and chilly in Cassino’s home towns of Bognor Regis, Littlehampton and Worthing in the winter months! Brass monkeys and spherical objects spring to mind on some of the nippiest days – Brrrrrrr!
Which got us thinking…
We have always made a warm welcome a key part of the Cassino experience, but what if we took that concept to a literal conclusion too? Ping! Cue the lightbulb moment: we should offer our guests free hot soup and luxurious hot chocolates to warm their bodies, while our lovely smiley team continue to offer our traditional heart-warming greeting.
It’s an idea that has been, well, warmly received!
It all comes down to good old fashioned hospitality and customer service. And as a family business of many years standing, we were taught about the importance of both by our grandparents, Cassino’s founders. We know (because our guests tell us) that it makes a difference and that it is appreciated – all the more so because it is genuine. Welcoming people is something we do instinctively and sincerely; it’s not a corporate decision. We do it because making people feel valued and warm inside is the human thing to do.
So come on in and enjoy that extra layer of liquid warmth! Whether it’s a hearty mug of soup or a sweet and warming choccy treat, topped with marshmallows (who doesn’t like marshmallows on their hot choc?), we’ll make sure that your visit as cosy as a Christmas jumper!
And while we’re about it, here are six of the best tips for staying snug in a West Sussex winter:
- Layer, layer and more layers! Thin layers will keep your body warmer than wearing one big sweater. Think T-shirt, shirt, woolly. Then add a coat, scarf and gloves when you venture outside.
- Get ahead with a hat. According the British Medical Journal, we lose up to 10% of body heat through our heads, so pop a bobble on your bonce!
- Keep active. Walking (properly wrapped up) will keep your body warm AND fit. So make sure you stroll to see us.
- Sock it to ‘em: Wear socks when you’re at home, even with slippers.
- Make sure you have your heating system checked annually and keep the dial set at a regular temperature.
- Don’t be fooled might give you a warm glow on the inside, but it actually makes the skin’s blood vessels expand and draws heat from your vital organs. Come and get one of our lovely FREE hot drinks instead.
